Genre Project I – Memoir - A

Purpose : The purpose of a memoir is to inform a reader or audience of a significant life lesson or value. In the book Crazy Love, the significant life lesson is that she had fell in love with a man that was abusive and let it affect her from thinking rationally and logically. She eventually divorced him and now doesn't put herself in danger by letting love overpower the judgement of her safety. Also in the book Shattered Love, it shows significance because Richard is finally not afraid to show his sexuality to the public by coming out that he is gay. It was a big step for him to openly admit that he was gay to the public because he thought it might affect his career as a actor. In the book A Child Called "It", it shows significance because it tells a story about a child getting abused by his mother. He faced many obstacles where he was severely beaten trying to find a way to escape from his mother. He was able to be placed in a foster home while the trial was going on. Then eventually found a home with new loving parents.

Audience: Audiences play a major role within a memoir, due to the fact that the purpose and meaning can be based on the audience. In the book Shattered Love, the audience would be targeted at people that share the same sexual preference or anyone in the public that would like to learn more about Richard Chamberlain. In the book Crazy Love, the audience would be targeted at people that were in the same situation where they were getting abused by someone. Falling in love with that person had affected there judgement too and they are looking for a way out. In the book A Child Called "It", the audience would be a more mature age group that has faced a person that has been abused.

Stance: The stance is the tone that you are conveying in your writing. A personal moment in your life that had a significant impact on you. The tone that is conveyed in the book Shattered Love is to not be afraid to be yourself whether it is a different choice in sexual preference or race. It was a big step for him to come out that he was gay to the public because it could have impacted his career. The tone for the book A Child Called "It" is a sad story that a boy overcomes his fear of his mother and go get help by taking her to court.

Media/Design A memoir can be presented as a printed document, a speech,or posted on a webpage. To help further understand the significance of your memoir you could include a picture of the moment, audio or video clips so you can connect your writing to a more visual aspect. Shattered Love is an example of a memoir being in the media because Richard is a famous actor so when he came out that he was gay it was all over webpages, and on television.

Individual Commentaries
My project does align with the key features of a memoir because it is a good story, shows vivid details, and has a clear significance. I think that my memoir is a good story because it tells the story about me falling in love for the first time and many people can relate to having those strong feelings for someone in their life. I go into talking about all the aspects in a serious relationship from the first time we met to the first time we said "I love you " to each other. It also explains the reasons I start falling for him and that a guy had never made me feel that way before. Vivid details are shown by dialogue, and creating a images in the readers head of moments in our relationship that were important to me. Some examples of important moments in our relationship were the first time we said "I love you " to each other, helping me get through tough situations, and recently starting to date him again. Significance is portrayed in my story about how important to me our relationship was and that he was the first guy that I fell in love with. I know that I will always have a little something in my heart for him even if don't work out because he had a big impact in my life by always being there for me.

My essay matches the description of a memoir by having a good story line, vivid details and a purpose to it. My memoir is about my football playing career and all the steps that I made to earn the right to play. It goes through my early playing days in middle school when I did not get much playing time like the others. I explain how I was able to work hard and overcome some obstacles to reach a spot to eventually start for my high school team. Many people can relate to this story because I know many people have gone through just about the exact same thing that I did. Many tough years of working hard to earn your goal. I use good details explaining the hard work that I put in over the years and explain the small steps of improvement I made year after year. It follows the basic outline of a memoir and I believe fits the genre quite well. It is a good story that flows well with good details and has an end purpose.

My project co-relates with the key characteristics of a memoir because it maintains a good story line, but also depicts the qualities of a good relationship which provides te reader with a life lesson. my memoir is about the importance of family, and how blood is thicker than water. I help the reader to envision themselves in a situation similar to my own; however, i provide enough adequate information and examples in hopes to help them make a better decisions than I have in the past. All key charachteristics of a good memoir are implemented within my personal memoir. One should always value their family, even in the most drastic situations.
